We share our journey as we become proud stewards of Swedish native breed of pigs called linderödssvin on the day after Christmas 2024! We show how we have sourced and transported bedding straw, made a water filtration system for a rejuvenated gravity-powered spring-fed well from the late 1800s, constructed outdoor water-drinking system that can withstand up to -30 degrees Celsius, engineered winter-friendly electric fence system, constructed a cosy and insulated winter home, prepared a few tonnes of hay silage from our biodiversity friendly pastures and provide finely crushed organic barley from our silo. We hope to work the land with our pigs using traditional farming methods, co-planting and co-breeding sovereign living genebanks of pigs and various seeds at our farm in the middle of Sweden, with one of the highest daily temperature difference at 62 degrees north that is ideal for experiments in climate resilient and regenerative living systems for food sovereignty and security, with minimal reliance on expensive farm machinery and without any reliance on agrochemicals from fossil fuels, but with ecological insights from classical field surveys and plant maps produced by our AI drones on our pastures and forests. We hope to use our pigs’ snouts in a timely manner during the spring, summer and autumn weeks to transform the landscape into a thriving biodiverse ecosystem. Looking forward to VakeWorks’ landscape transformation experiments with linderöd pigs at Miðgarðr Family Farm and Genebank!
